Reflections on America: March. 2024
This is my thoughtful opinion.
We are all upset, sad and angry and it appears we are all willing to sit on our positions and not improve the current state of affairs in our country. We look at each other as "the other". Some people want "to take America back". From who(m)? We are all Americans, all entitled to the freedoms we all currently enjoy. This beautiful country belongs to all of us living here, working here, paying taxes here, enjoying life here, struggling here, trying to live our best lives and finally to all be Americans.
I wish that all Americans would take time to research the things that are being sent out by the media and on social networks. There are many false facts being screamed out at us in America. Sometimes they seem true, sometimes they are logically false, sometimes they are buried under a pile of BS, sometimes the truth is not heard, sometimes they exist due to cult following, sometimes they are believed because it is easier.
We need to spend more time talking to each other, whether we agree or not. We need to spend time listening to each other and not the self-promoting, self-interested snake oil salesman out there, who only have their own selfish agenda in mind.
Our freedoms and Democracy is under attack from a religious, conservative, white, mostly male, right wing MAGA movement that threatens to destroy almost 250 years of this American experiment. Many of the people following this movement have been fed lies, exaggerations, distortions and false facts contributing to the fear and anger they provoke. They get in line and march. Sadly, the movements leader had been stowing fear, plotting against our institutions to degrade the American system. Sadly, he has allowed those who feel hatred, prejudice, fear of and disgust of others, to come out and let their true feelings be known. His ideology has allowed hate mongers to thrive.
No matter what your fears or prejudices are, the future cannot be stopped. The changes that are occurring in our society will come not matter how hard you try to stop or slow them. We will become an extremely diverse society that will benefit the world. We will have many immigrants come to our shores, as we always have. They will contribute to our well being, security and growth as a nation capable of continuing to lead the world.
America will continue to be the shinning light on the hill for the Democratic countries of the world.
We must not forget that we are "the land of the free, and the home of the brave"!
